Data Analysis

Data collection activities at large statistical agencies such as the U.S Census Bureau are not static, and continued research is needed oi subject matter areas by analyzing the collected data and the agency’s dissemination practices with the goal of improving the quality, timeliness, and usefulness of the data. Some of the specific areas covered under data analysis and dissemination include:

• Developing general guidelines for analysis of data from new and re-designed surveys and for new methods of collecting the data.
• Evaluating current data and methodologies from a demographic prospective with a goal of improving collection methods and methodologies such as those used to produce population estimates and projections.
• Studying and evaluating the accuracy of population estimates and projections methodologies including demographic estimates used to determine undercount in the decennial censuses.
• Performing analyses of demographic, economic, social, and related characteristics from sample survey results to gain a better understanding of the impact these characteristics have on certain segments of the population.
• Researching new methods for disseminating socio-economic and geographic data using new and emerging technologies in effective and user-friendly environments.
• Performing comparisons of similar data collected across surveys and censuses to determine the proper conveyance and sequencing of questions on various questionnaires.
• Evaluating how to make the Census Bureau data more relevant to policy makers.
• Exploring the introduction of improved tools to allow the data users to do time-series analysis of data.
