Sabre Systems, Inc. Collects for Haiti Relief Fund
In light of the recent natural disaster in Haiti, Sabre is taking up a monetary collection.
Company leadership has stated that Sabre will match employee contributions dollar-for-dollar, up to a specific amount. Sabre will donate all funds received to The American Red Cross – Southeastern PA Chapter. According to the American Red Cross website, the money collected will help the organization “…support emergency relief and recovery efforts to help those people affected by the earthquake in Haiti. Assistance provided by the American Red Cross may include deploying personnel, sending relief supplies, and providing financial resources.”

Sabre MA Region Hits the Casinos
Sabre was represented at a ‘Casino Night’ on November 13, which benefited the event’s host, St. John’s, a local private elementary school. Two Sabre employees volunteered at the event, which was held at the Monsignor Harris Center, and which was open to the public for anyone 21 years and older.
The school recreated a Las Vegas casino, and included Black Jack, slot machines, raffles and several other related gambling games. The event also provided a full bar and servers passed drinks out to attendees. Sabre volunteers, who were dressed in refined attire, right down to their bow ties, were very happy to help support such a great cause.

Sabre Employee Walks for Breast Cancer
Sabre helped promote a Philadelphia 3-Day Walk for the Cure team, which was spearheaded by a company employee. Although the walk was truncated to only one day because of the two nor’easters that hit the area the weekend of October 16, 2009, the team for which Sabre was rooting still managed to do an exceptional job. The team, which raised more than $140,000 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, was the top fundraiser for the Philadelphia event.

Sabre Represented at Gilda’s Club Dog Walk
Several Sabre employees joined the owners of more than 200 dogs in a light rain on Saturday, Oct. 10, to walk in the 11th Annual “Paws 4 Life” Dog Walk at Warminster’s Community Park. The walk benefited Gilda’s Club Delaware Valley, a non-profit organization for local people of all ages who are touched by cancer.
Sabre was proud to be one of the sponsors of this event that netted more than $57,000 for Gilda’s Club Delaware Valley.

Sabre Sponsors NIE
The Mid-Atlantic Region recently sponsored the Newspapers in Education (NIE) Department, a nationally recognized service that provides local schools with newspapers.
This program serves to teach students through updated real world reports rather than solely through traditional textbooks. Teachers are able to use the newspapers as a way to teach a variety of subjects, including reading, math, science, writing and geography, through provided lesson plans and other teaching tools.

Sabre Helps Preserve History
The Mid-Atlantic Region recently made a contribution to The Friends of the St. Clement’s Island and Piney Point Museums to assist them with building a collections management facility for the St. Mary’s County Museum Division. This division operates several local historical sites, including St. Clement’s Island Museum, the Little Red School House, Piney Point Historic Park and the Drayden African American Schoolhouse. The collections management facility will reportedly serve as a proper storage building for collections of antiques, artifacts, historic documents and heirlooms when not on exhibit.
Sabre is proud to support the preservation of Southern Maryland’s rich cultural history.

MA Region Sponsors Winefest
Sabre’s Mid-Atlantic Region was a proud sponsor of the annual Riverside Winefest at Sotterley. Held on October 3 and 4, 2009, the festival promoted local food, music and art, by including goods from area farmers and chefs, live music by local bands, and crafts by area artisans. Southern Maryland residents also had the opportunity to taste seventeen samples of wine from highly regarded wineries around the Maryland area.

Sabre Supports the Fleet Reserve Assoc.
Sabre’s Mid-Atlantic Region recently made a donation to the Fleet Reserve Association, a nonprofit organization comprised of current and former enlisted personnel of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. According to its website, the organization serves as the voice of the Sea Service Community by addressing issues before the U.S. Congress. The group is also reportedly dedicated to supporting and assisting enlisted members and their families. The local Branch 93 division in Patuxent River, Md., took up a collection of food and toys for less fortunate enlisted families during the holiday season. As a strong supporter of the community and military personnel, Sabre was pleased to help the organization meet its goals.

Sabre Supports Walk for the Poor
Sabre’s Mid-Atlantic team made a contribution to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Walk for the Poor event, which took place September 26, 2009, in Leonardtown, Md. The event was held to raise money for less fortunate families around the Southern Maryland area.
A Sabre employee also participated in the walk, which helped raise more than $6,000 for the local community. Approximately 200 people attended the organization’s second fundraising function, and the organization hopes to increase participation in the years to come.

MA Region Supports Charity Golf Event
The Mid-Atlantic team sponsored the annual summer Hollywood Lion’s Club Golf tournament. This year, aside from sponsoring the event, the company also provided a large group of participants and volunteers.
On September 11, 2009, despite the inclement weather, a large group of Sabre pros met on the Wicomico Shores Golf Course to lend their support. Sabre President Phil Jaurigue was joined by countless Sabre employees and friends, who all enjoyed a fun-filled day of golf, which benefited the local Lion’s Club chapter. In addition to those Sabre employees who participated in the golf tournament, several employees worked behind the scenes raffling off tickets and distributing food and refreshments throughout the day for up to 150 attendees.

Sabre Supports Big Brothers Big Sisters
Sabre’s Mid-Atlantic Region sponsored the Second Annual Wine Tasting of Southern Maryland, which benefited the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maryland organization. The event, held Sept. 12, 2009, at the Regency Furniture Stadium, featured signature dishes from local Southern Maryland restaurants, a wine-tasting, and a silent auction followed by a Blue Crabs baseball game and fireworks. The money raised at the event was donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters, whose mission, according to its website, is to ‘help boys and girls grow up to be confident, competent and caring young adults.’

Sabre Sponsors Donkey Baseball Game
The Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad (MVRS) held its ‘Donkey Baseball Game’ fundraiser at Laurel Grove Park in Mechanicsville September 12. Emergency Medical Technicians and volunteers from the southern Maryland area attempted to play baseball while sitting on donkeys. Sabre’s Mid-Atlantic Region sponsored the event, and two employees attended in an endeavor at raising money for their MVRS department.

Sabre Contributes to Malaria Prevention
Sabre recently made a contribution to World Vision, which, according to its website, is “a Christian relief and development organization dedicated to helping children and their communities worldwide reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty…”
Sabre’s donation will benefit the organization’s mosquito net initiative, which was established in June 2008, with the goal of addressing malaria in 64 malaria-endemic countries, 24 of which are in sub-Saharan Africa. This disease, according to the website, is responsible for the deaths of 2,000 children each day. The organization strives to provide prevention and treatment solutions in local communities. Its aim is reportedly to contribute to a 75 percent reduction in malaria cases, with the end goal of nearly zero preventable malaria deaths by 2015.

Support Gilda’s Club; Walk Your Pooch!
Sabre employees will show their support for Gilda’s Club Delaware Valley by attending the upcoming
11th Annual Gilda’s Club “Paws 4 Life” Dog Walk on Oct. 10, 2009 at Warminster Community Park.
Sabre is sponsoring the event, which includes a leisurely dog walk through the park followed by entertainment, music and various dog contests. All proceeds from the dog walk benefit Gilda’s Club Delaware Valley, which is committed to providing social services and emotional support to victims of cancer as well as to their families and friends.

Sabre Supports the Arts
Back in May, Sabre sponsored the “Spring Gala & Wild Things Opening at Annmarie Gardens.” Proceeds from the annual gala help to pay for events that take place at the arts center, including exhibits, classes, family programs and several community events throughout the year.
Annmarie Garden is a 30-acre sculpture park and arts center located in scenic Solomons, Md. According to the Garden’s website, the property contains an “exquisite collection of outdoor sculpture, much of it on loan from the Smithsonian Institution.”

Employee Participates in Local Cancer Benefit
Sabre Systems, Inc. was proud to make a donation to the fourth annual Pink Ribbon Luncheon, which was held at the J.T. Daugherty Conference Center in Lexington Park, Md., August 23, 2009.
Proceeds from the event are donated to the Cancer Support Group of Southern Maryland to help local patients deal with the costs of cancer treatment.

Sabre Provides Meals for Wounded Military Personnel
Sabre recently sponsored the Purple Heart Family Support Meals program, a MarineParents.com initiative, which, according to its website, “provide[s] support to the families waiting at the bedside of their injured or ill Marines and Sailors by providing lunches and fellowship during the weekends at hospitals around the United States and to encourage support of our wounded military personnel in communities throughout the United States.”
Sabre’s donation will cover a month worth of meals for wounded warriors and their families.
The project’s current focus is Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Md., and the Naval Medical Center San Diego, Calif. (a/k/a “Balboa”). The program will strive to provide support at additional locations as funding through donations allows.
